The race starts and ends on Grand Commons Avenue in the Fairfax Corner Shopping Center.

The Junior League of Northern Virginia's Strides for Success 5K and 1K Fun Run/Walk will be held at Fairfax Corner, 11950 Grand Commons Avenue, Fairfax, VA on Sunday, April 26, 2009. The 5K starts at 9:00 a.m. and the 1K starts at approximately 9:15 a.m. after the 5K runners leave. Event offers a rolling loop course through the surrounding community. This is a family-friendly event with medals for all child participants, prize for top male and female finisher, random prize drawing, refreshments, t- shirts, and goodie bags.

New and Beginning Runners Information

Registration: 5K: $30 through April 20; after April 20 the fee is $35.
5K Children 10 and under - $15.00 1K Fun Run/Walk: $20. Children 10 and under $15.
No dogs or headphones are allowed in the 5K race. Strollers are welcome in the 1K Fun Run/Walk.

Course The USATF certified course offers a rolling loop through the surrounding community.

Entry Forms: Register on-line! It is fast, easy, and you will receive an instant confirmation of your entry. On-line registration will close Wednesday, April 22 at 11:59 p.m. PST to prepare for on-site registration and packet pick-up.

Printable Entry Form - Print the entry form and mail it in. Or, bring it to on-site registration Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

2008 Race Crew

Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer for the race or join the Junior League of Northern Virginia, contact Marnie Medina.

All volunteers should report to the Volunteer check-in table located in the Fountain Plaza across from Coastal Flats. We ask that volunteers try to arrive as early as possible beginning around 6:45 a.m.

Beneficiary: The Junior League of Northern Virginia is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

More About JLNV: The trained volunteers of the Junior League of Northern Virginia strive to prepare children for success through programs and community partnerships that aid children in the areas of academic readiness and achievement, social and emotional growth, and personal health and well-being.

Results: Results will be posted on the Washington Running Report Web site late Sunday afternoon.

Late and Race Day Registration and Packet Pick-up: Late and race day registrations are allowed. You will need to complete the race registration form and pay the fee either by cash or check. You will then receive your race number, T-shirt and goodie bag. It is expected that there will be two opportunities to register on-site or pick up your packets, T-shirts, and goodie bags:

Saturday, April 25 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

On race day packet pickup is from from 7:00 a.m. until 8:45 a.m.

Please do not wait until race day if you want to avoid the lines.

Post-race Brunch: We will serve fresh fruit, bagels, bottled water, and other refreshments. Please be considerate of people finishing the race behind you, so that there is enough for everyone.

Training for a 5K Race: Read some handy tips on training for a 5K, whether it is your first race or you are a seasoned veteran looking to improve your speed! You will find this information valuable.

2008 Start of Fun Run

Directions: From Interstate 66 West, take exit 57B (Route 50). Pass the exit for Fair Oaks Mall and then take the second exit onto West Ox Road. At the second stoplight, turn left onto Monument Drive. At the third stoplight, you will be at Monument Drive and Government Center Parkway. Fairfax Corner is in front of you on the left.

FREE Parking at Fairfax Corner! There will be signs posted at the entrances to the shopping center on race day and volunteers to direct participants to free parking. Signs will also be placed throughout the shopping center to direct participants to registration and packet pick-up on Fountain Plaza in the center of Fairfax Corner.
