Local Residents Start Running and Walking Club

Club Focused on Training Beginners
By Nelda Strasser
April 16, 2007
Arlington, VA
For the Washington Running Report

The Arlington Road Runners Club, a new nonprofit chapter of the Road Runners Club of America, will begin its inaugural training season Saturday, May 5th in Rosslyn's Gateway Park. The club will help train new runners and walkers to complete local races, such as the Army Ten-Miler and Marine Corps Marathon, and to improve their general fitness levels.

The Arlington Road Runners Club, with its goal to train for DC races, offers members measured training routes, running/walking tips, and a friendly atmosphere. One of its local sponsors, Gotta Run, also offers members discounts on merchandise.

The club was founded by Nelda Strasser, Ellen Williams, Shari Pine, and Val Rodriguez - all former members of local marathon training programs who aim to help others get up, get out, and get fit. The four community-minded women intend to donate any profits towards funding obesity prevention programs for children in the DC Metro area.
