The Loudoun Roadrunners and the Loudoun Abused Women's
Shelter (LAWS) announce that the 10th annual LAWS Half-Marathon
and 5K will
be held on Sunday, September 26, 2004, at the Loudoun County 4H
Fairgrounds.
This year's race will feature the increasingly popular
Expo/Health Fair on
Saturday the 25th and a running clinic conducted by Potomac
River Running
Company. Race Director Randy Skovrinski notes, "The LAWS
Half Marathon is held one month prior to the nationally
recognized Marine
Corps Marathon. It provides an excellent training opportunity
for runners
who wish to gauge their preparation for the MCM as well as
other fall marathons
in New York City, Chicago, Richmond and Philadelphia."
The LAWS Half-Marathon and 5K is also celebrating the 20th
anniversary of
the shelter. LAWS provides emergency shelter, crisis
intervention, legal
services, support and information for women and children who
are victims of
domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or child abuse. The race
encourages runners to obtain individual sponsors. All funds
raised go directly to pay for food, clothing and
services at the
shelter.
All runners
can create
their own donation page through www.loudounroadrunners.org or
www.lcsj.org.
This year's prize structure is as follows: All runners
who raise
$250.00 or more will receive a baseball hat; those who raise at
least
$500.00 will receive a hat and a sweatshirt; and those raising
$1000.00 will
receive the hat, the sweatshirt and will be eligible for the
Grand Prize, an
exercise bike.
