The 13th Annual LAWS "Run for the Shelter" will be held
Saturday, April 20, 2008, rain or shine at the Loudoun County
Fairgrounds and will benefit LAWS, the Loudoun Abused Women
Shelter. Organizers invite runners of all ages to sign up now for the
Half-Marathon, 5K, or the Kids' Fun Run. With at least 500
runners and more than 1,000 spectators on hand, the "Run for
the Shelter" is one of the most popular sporting events in
Loudoun County.
The Old Dominion Corvette Club (ODCC) is the title sponsor for
the race, and will even have a Corvette display on-site on race
day.
"ODCC's sponsorship is a further indication of the groundswell
of community support for LAWS," said Randy Skovrinski, race
director, who noted that the race draws many sponsors each year
who want to show their support for the agency. "We all want to
stamp out domestic violence and make Loudoun County a safer
place."
The LAWS Half-Marathon is the longest foot race in Loudoun
County. Runners will cover a certified and scenic route along
part of the historic W&OD Railroad Trail. Both the Half-
Marathon and 5K are sanctioned by USA Track & Field. The race
is also part of the Loudoun Championship Series, making it an
excellent opportunity for runners to earn points for
prestigious prizes.
The Kids' Fun Run is open to children under 10 years of age and
uses a 0.25 mile course. All Kids' Run participants will
receive a race shirt and medal.
New for 2008, all runners will receive a technical race shirt
and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and
female finishers in the Half-Marathon.
Early registration fees are $40 for the Half-Marathon, $25 for
the 5K, and $10 for the Kids' Fun Run. Race entry fees after
April 12th are $45 for the Half-Marathon and $30 for the 5K
until race day. Race day entry fees are $50 for the Half-
Marathon and $35 for the 5K.

Marathon and will earn gift certificates to Potomac River
running, age group winners in the 5K will receive trophies. All
Kids Run finishers will receive a medal.
