Marine Corps Marathon Presents Free Runners Health Clinic
Press Release From the Marine Corps Marathon Tuesday, July 29, 2003 Quantico, VA For the Washington Running Report
The Marine Corps Marathon will present a free runners
health clinic, for athletes preparing to run the 28th Annual
Marine Corps Marathon, on Saturday, August 9 at 7 pm at George
Washington University Medical School's Ross Hall in Room 101.
Featuring Dr. David Brody, a member of the Marine Corps Marathon
medical staff for over 25 years, the clinic addresses runners of
all ability levels and touches on topics such as marathon
training, nutrition, effects of hot and cold weather and
injuries. Additional clinics will be held on Saturday, September
6 at 7 pm, and Saturday, October 11 at 7 pm.
Dr. Brody has been with the Marine Corps Marathon since its
first running in 1976 when he handed out water to runners. He
ran the marathon the next two years before becoming the event's
Medical Director in 1979.
Dr. Brody, founder of the Runners' Clinic at George Washington
University in 1978 to treat injured runners, is a member of
American Society of Sports Physicians, American College of
Sports Medicine, American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and Vice
President of the International Medical Marathon Directors
Association.
The 28th annual Marine Corps Marathon, held on Sunday October
26, 2003, has more than 18,000 registered participants. The
Marine Corps Marathon along with the Washington Post will host
the Healthy Kids Fun Run on Saturday, October 25 for children
ages 6-12. Immediately following the start of the Marathon on
Sunday October 26, an anticipated 1,000 runners will run the
MCM5K presented by Deer Park at the same Arlington, Virginia
start line as the MCM.
