Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and Jewish Foundation for Group Homes partner for new Home Run
Aiming at breaking attendance records at its local race, the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington has invited another community service organization, Jewish Foundation for Group Homes, to join forces at the new "Home Run." This year, the Hebrew Home's annual OyVay 10K/5K run has a new date, new beneficiaries and a new name, the Home Run. The race, previously held in June, will take place this year on Sunday, October 16. The race benefits the elderly residents of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and, this year, will also benefit adults with developmental disabilities and/or chronic mental illness who are residents of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes.. The organizations hope that through this partnership, the community will "go the extra mile" and come out to support the race - whether as a runner, walker, sponsor or volunteer.

The popular course, which will begin and finish at the Hebrew Home, race-day festivities, and online registration at www.hebrew- home.org remain the same.

Home Runners can choose between a 10K race or walk, 5K race or walk, or a one-mile fun run. The 10K out-and-back course starts at the Hebrew Home campus and winds its way through residential areas of Rockville. The course is USATF certified (certification code MD97002JS) and will be timed by The Runner's High using the ChampionChip. The 5K course follows the same route with a turnaround on Farm Haven Drive. The one-mile fun run is open to runners of all ages and abilities, and all fun run participants will receive a finisher's medal.

An after-race celebration including food, beverages, entertainment, prizes and an awards ceremony will be held at the Hebrew Home campus.

Race day registration begins at 7:00 AM at the Hebrew Home. The 10K starts at 8:30 AM, the 5K at 8:45 AM, and the fun run at 8:55 AM. Jog strollers are welcome to participate in the fun run.

Individuals can register online at www.hebrew- home.org for $18 through October 3. The entry fee is $22 October 4 -15, and $25 on race day. Brochures are available at area retail and sporting goods stores or by contacting 301-770-8329. All proceeds benefit residents of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes. Both organizations thank major sponsor Sodexho Senior Services and Hall of Fame Sponsor Goodman-Gable-Gould/Adjusters International. Harvey Goodman, President of Goodman-Gable- Gould/Adjusters International, chairs the event. Join us and help two great organizations. To volunteer on race day, register to run or become a sponsor, contact the Hebrew Home at 301-816-7715 or lerner@hebrew-home
