Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Celebrates Sixth Anniversary with 3 Doors Down
July 25, 2006 Virginia Beach, VA For the Washington Running Report
Platinum recording artists 3 Doors Down are set to rock
the
ocean front in Virginia Beach for the Rock 'n' Roll Half
Marathon post-race concert Sunday, September 3,
2006. In conjunction with the Verizon Wireless American Music
Festival (AMF), thousands of runners, walkers,
and rock 'n' roll fans will celebrate the final night of a
weekend filled with music and sport hosted by the City
of Virginia Beach.
Prior to the evening's concert, 20,000 runners and walkers will
complete the 13.1-mile half marathon course
that winds thru the communities of Virginia Beach. Along the
route, live bands, energetic cheerleaders, and
spirited neighborhood residents line each mile of the course to
cheer participants to the finish line, creating a
city-wide block party atmosphere. Once the sun sets, 3 Doors
Down takes the ocean front stage to kick off the
final party of Labor Day weekend.
A product of the small town of Escatawpa, Mississippi, 3
Doors Down continues to be one of the top concert
draws in North America, performing more than 300 sold-out live
shows a year. The band grew in popularity powered
by the single Kryptonite, which helped attract a record deal
with Republic Records, a subsidiary of Universal,
to produce its first album, The Better Life, in early 2000. The
band's second album, Away From the Sun, went
gold after its release in November 2002. Continuing on an upward
progression, 3 Doors Down continues to
enjoy the platinum success of its latest album, Seventeen Days,
that was released in 2005 and debuted at
number one on the Billboard 200.
3 Doors Down has had six number one singles - Kryptonite,
Duck & Run, Loser, Be Like That, When
I'm Gone, and Here Without You. According to Billboard Magazine,
they were the first debut act to ever
have had a number one single at four different radio formats
simultaneously with Kryptonite. The group won
the 2003 Billboard Music Awards for Best Pop/Rock Group and Best
Hot 100 Single. 3 Doors Down is: Brad Arnold, lead vocals - Matt Roberts,
