The Brain Aneurysm Race for Awareness 8K
By Bruce Lung July 28, 2008 Reston, VA For the Washington Running Report
The inaugural Brain Aneurysm Race for Awareness 8K in memory of
Timothy Susco will occur at South Lakes High School on October
4. With the Reston Hospital as the title sponsor and the
American record-holder in the mile, Alan Webb, in attendance,
race organizers are preparing for a competitive race. The Race for Awareness 8K will benefit both the Brain Aneurysm
Foundation and the Washington Transplant Center's awareness and
education efforts. The 8K will be contested on a certified
course and will be sanctioned by USA Track & Field. As many as
1,000 runners are expected to compete along the rolling, scenic
course that starts and ends at South Lakes High School. In addition to the 8K, a 2K fun run will wind its way along
tree-covered paths around the school. Cash prizes will be awarded to top three male and female
finishers in the 8K and the top two finishers in 5-year age
groups will win gift certificates to Metro Run & Walk, the
official running shoe and apparel store of the race. Dozens of
spectators and volunteers will be present along the routes and
at the finish. For more information, please visit the
race Web
site.
