It is the summer's most highly anticipated event and everyone
is invited to the 23rd annual Rockville Rotary Twilight
Runfest, Saturday, July 19, 2008. It all takes place in
Rockville Town Center with the Twilight Runfest Festival
beginning at 7:00 p.m. with live music, dancing, and variety of
food vendors for everyone. And at day's twilight, the 8K race and wheelchair race will
begin followed by the 1K Fun Run. Spectators will have a front
row seat watching runners compete for open, masters, and age
group awards. Most runners will be there for the pure
enjoyment of running a "night-time event" and partying after
they cross the finish line.
The 8K USATF certified course takes you through Rockville
neighborhoods and around the Montgomery College campus. But
this course is no slouch. It has some rolling hills so the
neighbors will be there to cheer you on. The 1K Fun Run will
follow immediately after the 8K and is a short out and back
with both races finishing under the balloon arch and lights.
HOT WEATHER WARNING:
Runners are reminded that it is typically hot and humid during
this event and you should be properly trained for these
conditions. Be sure to be properly hydrated before the race
and take water on the course.
Awards will be given to the first five open male and female,
top three masters, top three wheelchair finishers and top three
male and female in age groups. All runners are eligible for
random awards at the post-race festival.
Late registration and packet/chip pick up is available at the
following locations: 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. at Metro Run and
Walk, Federal Plaza, 1776 East Jefferson Street, Rockville and
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 110 North Washington Street in
Rockville Town Center.
The audience will be treated a very competitive event. Master
and track super- star, Alisa Harvey, will be vying a Twilighter
win. Michael Wardian, with his backward baseball cap will also
be competing Saturday night. The Twilight 8K show cases the
talented elite athletes in the tri-state area representing DC,
Maryland, and Virginia.
The Twilight Runfest is presented by the Rockville Rotary Club
and hosted by the City of Rockville Department of Recreation
and Parks. The race is conducted by the Montgomery County Road
Runners Club Inc. Race proceeds will benefit the Rockville
Rotary Recreation Fund and charitable organizations supported
by the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Rockville. Further info
