For the Washington Running Report

In photo above, runners line up for last year's 10K.

Online registration is available now at www.hebrew- home.org for the Home Run 10K/5K and Fun Run to be held Sunday morning, September 28, 2008. The race benefits the elderly residents of the Hebrew Home and also benefits adults with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness who are residents of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes.

Building on the success of last year's changes, the course will now start and end at Federal Plaza at East Jefferson Street. The post-race party near the finish line will feature more food and beverages, awards, and a wider variety of children's activities. This year's race will have a new fun run route and once again will include Under Armour T-shirts for all race participants. The race will be timed by MCRRC using the new IPICO transponder timing system, the latest technology in timing systems. We are pleased to be one of the first races in the area to use this technology.

Cash prizes are being awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female finishers in the 10K ($500-250-100) and 1st place male and female masters finishers ($250) and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female finishers in the 5K ($250, $150, $100).

Home Runners can choose between a 10K race or walk, 5K race or walk, or a fun run. The 10K out-and-back course travels along Montrose Road to Tower Oaks and is USATF certified. The 5K course follows a similar route. The fun run is open to runners of all ages and abilities. All fun run participants will receive a finisher's medal.

Race day registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at Federal Plaza. The 10K starts at 8:30 a.m., the 5K at 8:45 a.m., and the fun run at 8:55 a.m. Jog strollers are welcome to participate in the fun run. An after-race celebration includes food, beverages, entertainment, prizes, and an awards ceremony.

Individuals can register online at www.hebrew-home.org for $20 until September 8, $25 after September 8 or on site for $30 on race day. All proceeds benefit residents of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes.

Join us and help two great organizations and the individuals they serve. To volunteer on race day, register to run or become an event sponsor, call (301) 816-7715 or walker@hebrew-home.org.
