Athena Track Club lower their own American Record at Penn Relays
By Julie Hayden May 1, 2007 Philadelphia, PA For the Washington Running Report
Editor's Note: Hayden was a member of last year's record
setting
team.
Running in the Mixed Masters Men over 50 and Women over 40 race
at the Penn Relays on Friday, April 27, 2007, the Athena Track
Club was the first women's team to finish in a time of 4:12.64.
A new (pending) American Record for women in the 40-49 age
group.
Athena was the current American record holders in this event,
but the time recorded on Friday is a more than six second
improvement on their previous best.
Joan Hunter of Purcellville, VA, a National Indoor 40-44 age
group 400 and 800 Meter Champion in 2007, opened for the team
and handed off to Lorraine Jasper of Birchrunville, PA, also a
2007 National Indoor Champion in the 45-49 Mile event. Both
athletes are members of Athena's Indoor World Record 4 x 400
meter team, along with third leg runner Terri Rath of Ashburn,
VA. Having just turned 40 earlier in April, the anchor runner
Charmaine Roberts of Beltsville, MD, was the baby of the group.
Roberts, a 2006 National Outdoor Champion in the 35-39 age
group for 800 meters, ran a sub 60 second quarter to bring the
team home to victory. In Photo, the athletes are left to right: Charmaine Roberts,
Lorraine Jasper, Terri Rath, and Joan Hunter.
