A Day At The Races Benefiting Loudoun Therapeutic Riding

2nd Annual Race
By Joanne Hart

Leesburg, VA
For the Washington Running Report

The Loudoun Therapeutic Riding Foundation in Leesburg, VA will be holding their 2nd Annual 5K Cross Country/Family Fun Mile Event. This race will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 on the beautiful grounds of Morven Park in Leesburg, VA. The race will follow equestrian cross country trails with some "obstacles" for fun. There will also be a Family Fun Mile held after the 5K. Themed awards, food, and visits with LTRF's therapy horses will ensure a wonderful morning on the historic Morven Park grounds! Entry fees are $25 for the 5k pre-race, $30 race day, and $10 for the Family Fun Mile. You can register at www.runwashington.com on the Entry Forms Page or visit us at www.ltrf.org and click on A Day at the Races.

Therapeutic riding is widely recognized as one of the most beneficial forms of recreational therapy for people with disabilities. Horseback riding develops self-awareness, builds self-confidence, improves concentration and increases self- discipline. Riding also strengthens and relaxes muscles; improves posture, balance and coordination; and increases joint mobility. On or off the horse, the program also improves attitude and self image. Working towards these goals carries over into improved function in all activities of daily living.

LTRF's program is growing as the need for their services is growing across the county. All proceeds from the race will benefit their programs and services, ensuring the continued support to those in our community who benefit immensely from riding therapy.

Please visit us at www.ltrf.org. For race questions, sponsor donations or to volunteer on race day, please call Marianne Jones at 703- 724-0399.
