Kick off the Holiday Season with Turkey Trot 10K

Traditional 10K Run Aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico Complete With Turkeys for the Winners

What:

Runners are invited to kick off the holiday season with the Turkey Trot 10K, to be held on November 15, 2008 aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Open to the general public, this traditional 10K run includes a turkey for all winners!

When:

Saturday, November 15 at 9:00 a.m.

Butler Stadium (Located behind Barber Physical Activity Center)
Marine Corps Base Quantico
2073 Barnett Avenue
Quantico, VA 22134

Background:

The 6.2 mile ChampionChip timed course begins and ends in the newly renovated Butler Stadium. Runners will enjoy a moderately flat course, which loops from Butler Stadium, down Russell Road and turns around in the Marine Federal Credit Union parking lot.

Turkeys will be awarded to the top finishers and age group leaders. Age group winners will receive a 12 pound turkey and overall top finishers will receive a 15 pound turkey. All runners will have an opportunity to take photos with two live Narragansett turkeys, courtesy of GreenAche'rs Agricultural Farm in Caroline County, Virginia.

Runners who participate in any race in the 2008 MCM Event Series are eligible for Event Series awards. Runners will receive points for their placement within the open male and female categories, and within the master's male and female categories. Age group awards will be presented for each event and will fall into five year age increments through 70 and older.

The new MCM Event Series invites runners and fitness enthusiasts to participate in a range of race experiences. The Event Series sponsored by GEICO, Brooks, and Marine Federal Credit Union includes the Butler Relay, a 10K relay race; Run Amuck, a 5K course featuring a variety of obstacles; RunStock, a 5K race followed by a live concert; and the Turkey Trot, a traditional 10K race complete with a turkey for the winner.
