Start of the 2007 Veterans Day 10K

Capital Running Company Veterans Day 10K
Announces Grand Prize Drawing for Resort Vacation

Cash Purse for Open and Masters Runners
From the official press release
November 3, 2008
Rockville, MD
For the Washington Running Report

Capital Running Company announced today that the Veterans Day 10K race will offer a grand prize random drawing for a seven-day resort vacation for two! This prize will be awarded to the lucky runner whose tear-off stub is drawn at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.

For the winners of the race, Capital Running Company notes that the prize purse for the 2008 Veterans Day 10K will total $3,100, as it did for the 2007 event.

The prize money for the first male and female finishers is $500 each. The prize structure retains Capital Running Company's signature ten-deep overall awards. Cash will also be awarded to the first male and female finishers in the masters (40 and over) division. Gift certificates from Fleet Feet Adams Morgan and other stores and restaurants, as well as merchandise prizes, are awarded to the top three finishers in five-year age groups to 80 and above.

The 9th annual race, to be held Sunday, November 9 in West Potomac Park in Washington, DC, typically attracts the best and fastest runners in the region. "We're excited to have the opportunity again to attract top runners to the race," said Rick Freedman of Capital Running Company. "We are pleased to be able to reward their efforts. The DC area has a lot of running talent."

Prize money will be awarded as follows:

Open
  1st $500
  2nd $200
  3rd $160
  4th $130
  5th $110

  7th $90
  8th $80
  9th $70
 10th $60

Masters
  1st $50

There will be a random drawing from among participants for a grand prize of a one-week vacation for two at a resort of your choosing, good for travel during the next 18 months! You do not have to be fast to win the grand prize, but you do have to be present during the awards ceremony to win.

The Sergeant's Program will be on hand to warm-up the runners, and challenge runners with a chin-up bar and push-up contests.

The race benefits the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), which works to maximize the quality of life for its members and all people with SCI/D (spinal cord injury/disease) as a leading advocate for health care, SCI/D research and education, veterans' benefits and rights, accessibility and the removal of architectural barriers, sports programs, and disability rights. PVA is the only Congressionally chartered veterans organization dedicated solely to serving the needs of SCI/SCD veterans.

The race features Capital Running Company's new ChronoTrack timing system, which uses a disposable "D" tag that is delivered on bib numbers and which runners remove from the bibs and tie into their shoelaces. In addition, the event offers a flat, fast 10K course along the Potomac River, lively team competition, a 2.25 mile walk around the Tidal Basin, post-race refreshments and entertainment, lots of random prizes, and long-sleeve t-shirts to all participants.

Runners may register online now through Active.com on the race Web site or via paper entry form mailed or faxed to Capital Running Company. On-site registration and packet pick-up will be held Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8, from 11 am to 3 pm at the Old Post Office Pavilion, 12th and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. Register now, as there is no race-day registration.

The 2007 Veterans Day 10K drew runners from 26 states and the District of Columbia, and Canada.

Additional details about the race can be found on the race Web site.
