18th Annual DARCARS Young Run
By Kimberly Price, Race Director October 12, 2006 Rockville, MD For the Washington Running Report
On Sunday, October 22 Montgomery County Road Runners Club
(MCRRC) will present the 18th annual DARCARS Young Run
sponsored by DARCARS Volvo. This is a highly successful
community event for children 12 years and younger. Children can
choose to run either the quarter-mile, half-mile, or one-mile
event. This event gives children the feel of a real road race.
The race takes place on West Gude Drive in Rockville which is
closed to traffic. There is packet pick-up, racing bibs for
each runner, balloon arches over the start/finish area,
banners, and post-race refreshments. All events are
non-competitive. Ribbons will be given to all quarter-mile and
half-mile finishers and medals will be given to all one mile
finishers. MCRRC organizes the event to teach children that running and
fitness are fun. Montgomery County Public Schools are invited
each year to participate and encouraged to add a training
program to their curriculum so their students can prepare for
the DARCARS Young Run. Awards are given to the schools with
participation of 20% or more in the event. There is also a
School Spirit competition on race morning. Ask your child's
physical education teacher if they plan to participate. Visit the race Web site for more details. Children can
register online at the race Web site or via mail-in entry.
Registration closes Monday, October 16th. There will be one
last opportunity to register for the race Saturday, October 21,
at Packet Pick-up held at DARCARS Volvo, 15041 Frederick Road,
Rockville, MD.
Avoid the rush and increased registration fees on Saturday by registering online now for only $3.
