Consumer Electronics Association, Georgetown Running Company, and PerformTech Sign on as Sponsors for November 2, 2008 Event

Welz & Weisel Communications, a strategic public relations firm focused on creating awareness and credibility campaigns for information technology companies, today announced that all runners and volunteers of the inaugural Run! Geek! Run! 8K will receive "geek" glasses and long-sleeve T-shirts. In addition, the race will provide the top three male and female masters runners with awards as well as hosting a team competition. The race is set to take place on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. in West Potomac Park, Washington, DC. All proceeds will go to support the Equal Footing Foundation, a Virginia based 501 (C) (3) nonprofit focused on youth development and education and is the charitable arm of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC).

Teams may be composed of up to ten members with the fastest four scoring. Of the first four team finishers, one must be a man and one must be a woman. Team members can register online as individuals but must all use the identical team name. Teams can also use the printable downloadable form and fax the entries to 301-871-0006. Then the team name needs only to be on the cover sheet and payment can be made for everyone on the team with a single credit card.

Run! Greek! Run! 8K starts and finishes in West Potomac Park, a national park in Washington, DC and home to famous monuments such as the FDR Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and the Reflecting Pool. This is a flat, fast, out- and-back course and is a ChronoTrack event supported by the Capital Running Company. Custom medals will be given to the top three runners in five-year age group brackets. Following the race there will be a post-run gala with music, food, and drinks.

Entry fee for the Run! Geek! Run! 8K race is $35. Registration is not available the day of the race. All proceeds go to the Equal Footing Foundation.
