Potomac Valley Track Club's "Young Flyers" Youth Track & Field
Program
for athletes in 1st through 8th grades
starts this Sunday, October 2, at 3 pm
at Thomas Jefferson Community Center on the outdoor trail.
The program is 11 weeks long on every Sunday to encourage
young athletes to excel at sprinting, middle-distance running,
racewalking, long jumping, shot put, and discus.
Train with great coaches: Kristen Gordon, Katie Halliday,
Larry Hart, Kimya Moore, Laura Niel, Emily O'Keefe, Liza Recto,
Sarah Weber, Jay Jacob Wind, and others. Get the best out of yourself: Run and walk fast, jump long and
high, and throw far. Learn to stretch--increase your
flexibility and prevent injuries. Build strength, endurance,
and speed. Improve your nutrition and maintain healthy habits.

Dates: Outdoor Track: October 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30
Indoor Track: November 6, 13, 20, & 27; December 4 & 11
(December 11 is a practice meet to prepare for the indoor meets
in January and February) Directions: From Arlington Blvd. (US 50), south on Irving
St. (east of Glebe), west on 2nd St. to entrance on right.

Typical Sunday training session:
3:00 Circle Time I: Warm up, stretching and strengthening
exercises, break into groups
3:15 Groups I: Grade K-2: 50-100 meters; Grade 3-4-5: 200-400
meters; Grade 6-7-8: 400-800 meters/1-mile
3:55 Circle Time II: Stop for water, light stretching, break
into groups
4:05 Groups II: Choose sprints, middle and long distance, race-
walking, hurdles, long jump, or discus/shotput
4:35 Relay Races
4:55 Circle Time III: Recovery stretching, athlete & coach
interviews, refreshments
