General Information
The 7th Annual Cassidy & Pinkard Brain Tumor Society 5K Run and
Walk will be held at 9:30 am on Sunday, May 2, 2004, at
Freedom Plaza, on Pennsylvania Ave, between 13th and 14th
Streets, NW, in Washington, DC. The race staging area is
at Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Ave between 13th and 14th
Streets, NW. Parking is available on surrounding streets,
or
take Metro to the Metro Center station on the Red line, or the
Federal Triangle station on the Blue/Orange lines.The run/walk event is open to all runners who seek a challenge,
a good course, or just a healthy way to support the Society's
medical research efforts. The race enjoys a very scenic
start/finish in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. The USATF
certified, fast course takes runners and walkers on an out-and-
back course along Pennsylvania Ave, and offers gorgeous views
of
the US Capitol Building and springtime in our nation's capital. In addition to the fast course, there will be a kid's quarter
mile Fun Run immediately after the start of the 5K. All fun run
finishers will receive a ribbon or medal. No registration
necessary; just come and run! All 5K participants will receive a 100% cotton "There is Hope"
Brain Tumor 5K t-shirt -- newly designed for 2004! Post-race festivities include great random prizes donated by area
restaurants and retailers. Valuable awards and merchandise
prizes go to top three overall male and female winners and top
two male and female finishers in five-year age groups. The race is sponsored by
Cassidy &
Pinkard, and supported by
Duron Paints and
Wallcoverings,
and this high
quality, well-organized event is conducted by Capital
Running Company. The 2004 race will be timed by the
ChampionChip. Brain tumors are the second leading cause of cancer death in
children and young adults, and one of the fastest growing
causes of cancer in the elderly.
The Brain Tumor Society is a national non-profit
organization committed to finding a cure for brain tumors
through research, education, and support. Proceeds from the
race benefit the Brain Tumor Society's medical research
efforts.
Donations to the Society are accepted. Last year, the Brain
Tumor 5K raised more than $200,000 for the Society. The race is fun for people of all ages! Below, kids show
off their medals.
