Leesburg 10K & 20K 2008

Leesburg 20K Course Photos

For the 17th annual race in 2005, Harris Teeter and YMCA Loudoun County offers , for the second year, a 20K race option for runners who want to take on the challenge of the longer distance.

The New Courses
20K and 10K runners will start together at 8:15 am on Harrison Street in downtown Leesburg, in front of Market Station and the Tuscarora Mill Restaurant. After a run through town, runners head out west on the W & OD Trail.

  1. 10K runners will turn around shortly after this access point from Dry Mill Road and head back to town. 20K runners continue on.

  2. Looking west, just after the Dry Mill Road access point.

  3. The Washington & Old Dominion Trail is one of the most heavily used recreational amenities in Loudoun County, and it will be open to runners, bikers, rollerbladers, walkers, people pushing strollers, etc. on race morning. Participants are asked to be careful to keep to the right side of the trail and pass others in a courteous manner.

  1. Much of the trail is shaded; a welcome respite on a hot summer morning.

  2. Views of rolling farmland abound.

  3. Dry Mill Road crosses the trail just after Mile 5 (20K outbound) and just after Mile 8 (inbound). Listen and watch for directions from course marshals.

  1. Another view of the Dry Mill Road crossing. Drivers do not have much sight distance. Course marshals and police will assist runners at all road crossings.

  2. Looking west, to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

  3. A bridle trail runs next to the asphalt path, reflective of Loudoun's "hunt country" atmosphere.
