The official charitable partner for the 21st Annual St. Patrick's Day 8K is Special Olympics DC. This organization strives to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for all children and adults with developmental disabilities. The goal is to bring all individuals with mental retardation into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected, and given the opportunity to become happy and productive citizens.

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that through successful experiences in sport, Special Olympics athletes gain confidence and build a positive self-image which carries over into the classroom, the home, the job, and the community.

Over the years, the race has donated almost $50,000 to the Special Olympics.
