Event will now start and finish at the Frederick Fairgrounds

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today that the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Frederick Marathon Weekend will take place from Saturday, May 3 through Sunday, May 4, 2008. For the first time in race history, the event will start and finish at the Frederick Fairgrounds.

"Having the race start and finish at Harry Grove Stadium was great but the event has outgrown the venue," stated CSE president Lee Corrigan. "By moving to the Frederick Fairgrounds we will be able to have all the participants park on site, which is an important convenience. We will also be able to have all the races start and finish right there, which will make for a very exciting venue."

The relocation will result in a new course for 2008, but all five races will return including the marathon, half-marathon, 5K, four-person team relay, and progressive marathon. The Fairgrounds also allows for the Health and Fitness Expo to take place indoors in one of the Fairgrounds' buildings and not be affected by the weather.

The 2007 CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Frederick Marathon Weekend saw an event record 3,200 people pre-register. Among the highlights were Michael Wardian breaking the World Record for fastest marathon while pushing a stroller and Dane Rauschenberg starting last in the field and earning money for each runner he passed along the way as part of the Ferris, Baker, Watts Charity Chaser Program. In the end, Rauschenberg raised $4,000 for the United Way of Frederick County
