Arlington, VA
For the Washington Running Report

The Marine Corps Marathon announced the exciting entertainment line up for the Carbo Dining In, featuring guest speaker Dave McGillivray, Race Director for the Boston Marathon. The upscale pasta party event for the MCM will be held on October 25 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Following the spirit of traditional military formal dinners called "Dining-In," the Carbo Dining will give runners motivational fuel for race day.

Guest speaker Dave McGillivray, Boston Marathon Race Director, is sure to inspire runners as he shares his stories of motivation, obstacles and triumphs. Author, speaker, philanthropist, and 21-year race director for the Boston Marathon, Dave McGillivray was 12 years old when he challenged himself to run his age in miles on his birthday each year. This personal goal set the stage for McGillivary to run more than 130,000 miles in his lifetime, including 123 marathons, and two cross country runs from California to Boston. Among his many marathons, he counts 37 Boston Marathons, 21 of which he has run the evening of the Boston Marathon, after his duties as race director have been completed. He has continued his childhood challenge, completing 53 miles this year for his 53 birthday.

"I ran the Marine Corps Marathon back in the early 80's and found it to be one of the most enjoyable and fascinating marathons I have ever participated in," said McGillivray. "I am looking forward to returning as a guest speaker with the goal of inspiring and motivating others to fulfill their dreams of running and finishing this world-class race."

Attendees will also enjoy a performance by the American Belles, who present a high energy show featuring American standards and patriotic favorites, signing in rich three part harmony. The American Belles served as the USO Liberty Belles performing at hundreds of military, veteran and civilian events. The evening is completed with plenty of Marine Corps style fun, music, giveaways, and more!

The Carbo Dining In will begin at 6:00 p.m. and includes a buffet-style pasta dinner, salad, drinks, desert, and more. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online until September 26 or during race weekend at the Health and Fitness Expo at the DC Armory and the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. All pre-ordered tickets will be inserted into the runner's race materials received at Packet Pick-up.

Voted "Best Marathon for Families", the Marine Corps Marathon continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship, and patriotism. Runners from all walks of life have participated in the world's largest marathon to not offer prize money, deservingly earning the nickname "The People's Marathon." The 33rd Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 26, 2008 in Arlington, VA is presented by USAA, Brooks Sports, Inc., and CVS/Caremark. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement implied.
