Entertainment Announced for August 23rd Race in Marine Corps Marathon Event Series

The entertainment line up has been announced for Run Stock, the August 23, 2008 5K run and the third race in the MCM Event Series. A pre-race concert features B2B, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, at 6:30 p.m. on the main stage at Barnett Field. Shortly before 7:15 p.m. local country sensation Miranda Townsend will kick off the race with her performance of the national anthem on the start line.

Throughout the 3.1 mile course, participants will be treated to a wide range of musical stylings from local artists. Winding Creek Elementary African Ensemble, a Stafford, VA-based group dedicated to performing music from the many cultures of Africa is located at Marine Corps University on Morrell Avenue. On River Road between 3rd and 4th streets, runners will hear Guys Without Watches and their unique blend of modern rock including covers from Van Halen and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Near Lester Street the saxophone, guitar, and drum combination of The Pickup Trio, is sure to motivate runners with variety, ranging from light jazz to hard rock. As runners journey into Quantico Town they will enjoy the indie-rock sounds of Tsarina playing tunes from Sonic Youth, The Pixies, and Radiohead. Finally, runners will travel to simpler times with the Historyland Barbershop Chorus performing classic barbershop music, patriotic, and novelty tunes just before the MCU Tunnel at the intersection of Broadway and Martin Streets. Post race, participants can relax with family and friends and enjoy D.C.'s premiere party band, Gonzo's Nose. Formed in 1996, their extensive song list features high energy songs covering a variety of musical styles over three decades. The free concert is open to the general public.

"Runners are sure to enjoy this family-friendly event," said Rick Nealis, Race Director. "The combination of fantastic local entertainment and a 5K road race create a unique running experience that participants will love."

Registration is open to runners ages 6 and older at www.marinecorpshistorichalf.com. The $30 registration fee includes all race materials including the official event shirt, finisher coin courtesy of Marine Federal Credit Union, bib, hospitality, chill towel, glow stick, and more. Younger runners (ages 6-13) can register for just $5.

The new MCM Event Series invites runners and fitness enthusiasts to participate in a range of race experiences. The MCM Event Series is sponsored by GEICO and Marine Federal Credit Union. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement implied.
