Meet Opens with Address by Dr Leroy Walker, USOC's First African American President
Dr Leroy Walker,inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in
1987, addressed coaches at the HBCU Track Invitational: We want
you to have exposure. Schools and athletes can gain national
recognition. We have something unique, HBCUs should be proud.
These athletes represent fine institutions.Coach Bill Moultrie, a former U.S. Olympic sprint and relay
coach, added his enthusiasm to the event: Coaches make the
difference and they have done an incredible job. Some of the
brightest people come from the sport of track and field. An FBI
recruiter once told me at Howard University that they look to
recruit from these athletes because they are more disciplined.
