New Course for Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion Races

Race Also Adds the Chronotrack Timing System
By Karen Parks
February 10, 2009
Ashburn, VA
For the Washington Running Report

This year's proceeds will be donated in full to the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department.

The Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion and Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department announce that registration is now open for the Ashburn Village 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile Fun Run.

This year's race will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2009. The 10K will begin at 8:00 AM, the 5K at 8:10 AM, and the Fun Run at 8:20 AM. The race site is the Ashburn Elementary School at 44062 Fincastle Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147. The start and finish for all events is in front of the school. The New courses for the 5K and 10K have been certified. The courses loop through scenic Ashburn Village with no more than a one percent grade incline at any time.

The race will be timed and scored by Capital Running Company using the ChronoTrack timing system. The system uses a computer "D-tag" which must be tied to the shoelaces of each runner and records the exact time each runner crosses the starting line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. The D-tag is disposable. Overall awards will be based upon clock or "gun" time and age group awards will be based upon net times as determined by the D-tag.

Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers as well as the top male and female finisher in the following age groups: 12 and younger, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and older.

Are you just getting started or maybe not yet the runner you would like to be? Sign up now for AVSP's Couch to 5K program. This 8-week program will take you from couch potato status and train you to be able to run a 5K. The program culminates with the Ashburn Village 5K.

This year's proceeds will be donated in full to the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department.
