Atayne Sponsors the Runterra 8K Race in Gaithersburg, MD

Atayne, a brand of people and planet safe performance gear based in Arlington, VA, announced their sponsorship of the Runterra Race Series, a nationwide series of green running events. The first Runterra race will take place in Gaithersburg, MD at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on March 29, 2009 in conjunction with the Go Green America Expo, bringing clean energy solutions to everyday people. Atayne will handle recycling efforts for Runterra while helping spread good will to runners during the race and teaching simple ways to live a little greener. Atayne has been making quite a name in the running community for its shirts made with recycled coconut shells and by literally running races while picking up discarded water cups and other waste as they run.

Runterra Gaithersburg 8K participants will receive free entry into the Go Green America Expo a reusable grocery bag filled with goodies from PREVENTION Magazine and other sponsors, discounted race entries for using alternative transportation, as well as have a tree donated in their name to help off-set their carbon footprint. With the help of eco- friendly companies like Atayne, Runterra hopes to keep the event as "green" as possible by providing alternate transportation, discounts to those riding bikes or buses to the race, recycling waste and many other earth-conscious practices.

"Atayne puts people and the planet first," explains Corky Sturtevant, Race Director for Runterra, "something we try to do with our race series as well. We are excited to have Atayne on our team to help really pump up runners and get everyone excited about making strides toward greening their lifestyle in simple ways." Runterra is a format that will attract long time runners who are ready to take action for the preservation of their planet, as well as athletes of all levels who care about keeping their world clean.

About Runterra

The Runterra Race Series is the first major U.S. multi-event running race series using a "green" platform to produce races that will have a minimal impact on the environment. Ultimately, the goal of Runterra is to produce a race that is 100% "green". Because runners log many miles on dirt trails, mountain sides, pavement, streets, and even snow they are the perfect audience to help make a big impact on preserving the planet. Now Runterra is asking runners to take a stand toward preserving the earth; learn ways in which they can live a little (or a lot) more green. By working alongside successful green expos nationwide, Runterra will stage events where runners join efforts to create less waste by using recyclable or biodegradable products, lower fuel emissions by providing plenty of access to public transportation and incentives for walking or biking to the event, and more flexibility for runners by including a virtual race. Runterra is a division of national non-profit seeMOMMYrun.com. For more information visit www.runterra.com.
