Rockville, MD
For the Washington Running Report

Amanda Tiernan (30) of Gaithersburg, MD has a powerful 10K race in 42:22.

The Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and Jewish Foundation for Group Homes are pleased to announce the fifth annual Home Run race will be Sunday morning, October 18, 2009. The race benefits the elderly residents of the Hebrew Home and also benefits adults with developmental disabilities and chronic mental illness who are residents of the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes.

Building on the success of last year's record breaking event, the course will once again start and end at Federal Plaza on East Jefferson Street where the post-race party will feature more food and beverages, awards, and a wider variety of children's activities as well as prizes for fun run participants. This year's race will once again include Under Armour t-shirts for all race participants. Cash prizes are being awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female finishers in the 10K and 5K and 1st place male and female masters finishers. This year age group prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place finishers. We invite runners to challenge last year's 10K (men's) course record of 30:08. Online registration will be available later this spring and more information is available at www.hebrew-home.org.

Home Runners can choose between a 10K race or walk, 5K race or walk, or a fun run. The 10K out-and-back course travels along Montrose Road to Tower Oaks and is USATF certified. The 5K course follows the same route. The fun run is open to runners of all ages and abilities, and all fun run participants will receive a finisher's medal.

Race day registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at Federal Plaza. The 10K and 5K start at 8:30 a.m.; the fun run at 8:55 a.m. Jog strollers are welcome to participate in the fun run. An after- race celebration includes food, beverages, entertainment, prizes and an awards ceremony.

All proceeds benefit residents of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington and the Jewish Foundation for Group Homes. Both organizations thank Jon Tomares and Steven Rindner, chairs of the event.
