Army Ten Miler

Volunteers for the Wave Start Line Seed Monitors
By George Banker
July 29, 2008
Washington, DC
For the Washington Running Report

In order for a running event to be successful it requires months of planning and coordination. A key part of the planning is the recruitment of dedicated volunteers. On Sunday, October 5, 2008 the 24th Annual Army Ten-Miler will take to the roads from the Pentagon along Route 27. One focal point for the race this year will be to stage a successful two-wave start for the seven seeded corrals. The major benefit of the wave start is to ease the congestion from the start and to allow runners of like abilities to be running together.

The function of the Start Line Seed Monitors is to be the human barrier between each of the seven color-coded seed corrals. The requirement is for 10 persons for each seed area. Each person will wear a vest to match the corral which will correspond to the color coded bib number. The hours for this position are 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and this will be along Route 27 and in the South Pentagon Parking Lot (Lanes 1-7).

This is an excellent opportunity for your group, family, friends, and co-workers to come out as a group to support this event. To those who are fashion conscious the available colors are: gold, green, red, blue, white, orange, and purple. Army Ten-Miler baseball cap will be included.

You will have a good viewing position to see the Canadian Sky Hawks and the Army's Golden Knights make their jumps prior to the start of the race.
