the Marathon and Half Marathon competition which will be
introduced at the 8th staging of the world famous long distance
event scheduled for Negril on December 6, 2008.
According to Race Director, Alfred " Frano" Francis, this new
race has been added in an effort to "open the field of
participants to a wider cross section of persons who wish to
participate but may not yet be ready to take part in either the
marathon or half marathon."
Mr. Francis said, "Our objective is to develop long distance
runners and adding this new event is yet another move to
attract those who have an interest and are looking for an
opportunity to compete and to develop their skills in this
area."
Persons wishing to register for the 10K should note that the
start time for all races is the same as all will begin
simultaneously at 5:15 a.m. and will follow the same course.
Runners and walkers who are participating in the 10K, however,
should note that their "turn around" point is at the six mile
mark after they have passed the Long Bay Beach Park.
Like the marathon and half marathon, all participants in the
10K will receive a medal, while winners and top finishers will
be eligible for trophies and other prizes. Participants will
also receive free entry to all Marathon events such as the
world renowned Pasta Party as well as the Victory Party. Chip
timing for results will also apply to all entrants.
