The Lynchburg Road Runners is pleased to announce that Genworth Financial will be the title sponsor of the Virginia Ten Miler for the next three years. Genworth is one of Lynchburg's largest private employers.

The title sponsorship of the Virginia Ten Miler is being passed from BB&T, who has been the title sponsor of the Virginia Ten Miler for the past 10 years, to Genworth Financial and the Virginia Ten Miler is very optimistic about the change.

The first Virginia Ten Miler occurred in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1974 with 188 runners participating. In 2007, more than 1,100 runners completed both the Ten Miler and 4 mile events. This represented a 30% increase in participation from previous years. In addition, 249 children ranging from the ages of 3 to 13, participated in the Amazing Mile Children's Run. The Virginia Ten Miler and its challenging course have drawn both elite and amateur athletes from throughout the country and around the world.

In 2007, the Lynchburg Road Runners assumed ownership of the Virginia Ten Miler from the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. This year, the 35th Annual Virginia Ten Miler, 4 mile race and Amazing Children's Mile will continue to be the highlight of the Lynchburg Road Runner's Summer Race Series and serve continue as a regional championship for the Road Runners Club of America. It will take place Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. at E.C Glass High School and proceeds will benefit the Coalition for HIV Awareness & Prevention (CHAP).
