You Don't Have to be a Lawyer to Run --
All You Need is a Big Heart!

"All of the women were looking at each other at the start to see who looked strong. I really didn't know I was in the lead until the fourth mile, and then the hills popped up. I didn't know what the prize was. I am excited about the tickets and I'll give them to my parents," stated Heather Greenbaum of Potomac, MD, after winning (39:26) the 8th Lawyers Have Heart 10K on June 6, 1998.

"I was trying to catch Robert Lotwis. I tried to close the gap but he was stronger on the hills. I thought I had a chance in the first three miles. Oh man... all those hills, I wasn't expecting them," stated runner-up (33:17), Russell Crandall after the 8th Lawyers Have Heart 10K.

Greenbaum and Crandall will notice a major difference at the 13th Lawyers Heave Heart 10K on Saturday, June 14 -- NO HILLS! They will notice the same commitment from the Washington area legal community showing an increased support to the American Heart Association. Since 1991 the race has raised over $2.5 million to benefit the American Heart Association.

The fastest lawyers from 2002 were Jim Hage (32:54) and Anne Walsh (36:16). Hage will be returning to defend his title.

Team Marines from Quantico, VA will be landing at the Washington Harbour. The team, Captain McCann (Bib#8), Captain Groharing (Bib#13), Captain Danielson (Bib#9), PFC Rodriguez (Bib#15) and coach, Master Sergeant Schmidt (Bib#27).

The race starts at 8:00 am, Saturday, June 14, at the Washington Harbour at 3000 K Street, NW, Washington, DC. The race entry fee is $32 and $35 on race day. The fee for children 12 and under is $10.

Your last chance to take advantage of the reduced entry fee and receive a complimentary workout at the Sports Club/LA (1120 22nd Street, NW, Washington, DC, between L and M Streets) is during pre-race packet pick up on Thursday, June 12th from 11 am to 7:00 pm and Friday, June 13th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The overall male and female winners will receive two JetBlue Airways tickets for travel in the continental U.S. The open division (male and female) will have awards going six deep, which included hotel stays, heart rate monitors and gift certificates at Fleet Feet DC. In the master's division (male and female), the first place finisher will receive a one-year membership at Sports Club/LA. The awards in this division will go to the top five which will include dinner certificates and merchandise at Fleet Feet DC.

The age group awards will be in ten year increments starting with 19 and under and five year increments starting with 40-44. There will no duplication of awards. There will be awards for the special team categories and plaques to the first place team.

The American Heart Association was founded in 1924. The AHA is the largest voluntary health organization and the largest non-governmental funding source for cardiovascular disease and stroke, which eventually kill nearly one million Americans.
