Wilson Komen Lining Up To Defend Lawyers Have Heart 10K Title Along With John Tuttle and Robyn Humphrey
By George Banker
June 5, 2006
Washington, DC
For the Washington Running Report

The American Heart Association was founded in 1924. The AHA is the largest voluntary health organization and the largest non- governmental funding source for cardiovascular disease and stroke, which eventually kill nearly one million Americans.

The countdown has started for a street contest among local area runners and law firms for the 16th Annual Lawyers Have Heart 10K, Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. at the Washington Harbour in Georgetown.

This year's presenting sponsor is StaffWise Legal--An Ajilon Company. The race benefits the American Heart Association (AHA) whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease (CVD) and stroke. By participating, you will not only strengthen your own heart through exercise, you will also help to raise funds vital to the educational programs and research of the AHA.

The relatively flat USATF-certified course demands that you give your best and leave it all on the road. The opening arguments are given in the first mile and the cross examinations will take place between miles two through five. The closing arguments will be over the last mile where the case will get nailed shut. Come and hang out with your family, friends and co-workers and feel good about yourself just knowing that you are making a contribution to the programs of the AHA.

EXTREME WEATHER PLAN:
In the event of extreme weather conditions, the race committee reserves the right to cancel the race or run it as an untimed "Fun Run" without advance notice. If this should be necessary, runners will receive shirts and packets. Post-race activities will be held. Random prizes will be announced. Winners' prizes will be converted to random prizes. No entry fee refunds will be made. Please visit the website for further information.

There will be water at the start of the race, at mile 2, 4, near the 5 mile mark along the return (M Street) before the Whitehurst Freeway, and at the finish line.
