By George Banker
June 11, 2008
Washington, DC
For the Washington Running Report

Call for Volunteers: The race has a place for dedicated volunteers who wish to support the event and the American Heart Association. To sign up to volunteer, call 703-248-1706 or visit the race web site . All volunteers will receive a Lawyers Have Heart T- shirt.

Local runners and lawyers are gearing up for 18th Lawyers Have Heart 10K, Saturday, June 14, 2008. There is the potential for great performances as some of the top athletes come out to show their support for the American Heart Association.

The USATF certified course starts at the Washington Harbour at Georgetown and follows the Whitehurst Freeway out and back along Canal Road to finish back at the Washington Harbour at Georgetown. The course is scenic and a portion is parallel to the C&O Canal.

Each runner should visit the race web site to find the information on the hydration tips for race day. In the event of extreme weather conditions, the race committee reserves the right to cancel the race or run it as an untimed "Fun Run" without advance notice. If this should be necessary: Runners will receive shirts and packets. Post-race activities will be held. Random prizes will be announced. Winners' prizes will be converted to random prizes. No entry fee refunds will be made. There will be water at the start of the race as well as two out and back water stations along the course. Historically race day is warm and to properly prepare, runners should manage their fluid intake at lease two days prior in an effort to be hydrated for race day conditions. Water should be consumed prior, during, and after the race. Being properly hydrated will ensure a safe race.
