Set for Saturday, June 28, 2008
By Cathy Pugsley June 15, 2008 Ashburn, VA For the Washington Running Report
in 2007 race, runners reach the halfway point.
Potomac River Running is pleased to announce ING Financial
Partners as the new presenting sponsor for the third annual
Potomac River Running Twilight Festival 4-Miler. The Twilight Festival 4-Miler, now presented by ING Financial
Partners, takes place Saturday, June 28, in Ashburn, VA, near
the Ashburn Gold's Gym. The fast, two-looped course is runner
and spectator friendly. The evening race format gives runners,
walkers, and their families a chance to spend an evening out
together, participating in the race and the enjoying the
festival, which will include live music from classic rock band,
The Sock Monkeys, finish line food provided by Harris Teeter,
hot food from Red Hot & Blue, and cold beer, as well as a moon
bounce, a dunk tank, and other family activities. The race benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, as well as
the Potomac River Running Award for Excellence Fund, which
funds scholarships awarded annually to area High School Cross
Country and Track & Field athletes, based on criteria including
sportsmanship, work ethic, and team contribution. "We are
excited to raise funds for these two great causes," said race
director Ray Pugsley. "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team
in Training Programs tirelessly raises funds for cancer
research, and we believe strongly in the organization's
mission." He further commented, "The Award for Excellence is a
way for us to recognize athletes who contribute both on and off
the track, recognizing leadership and work ethic, not just
talent. We are looking forward to awarding scholarships to area
athletes this year." High school teams qualify to nominate athletes for the
scholarship fund by participating in the High School Team
Registration Challenge. Anyone registering for the race can
affiliate him or herself with their area team by listing
themselves as "running as part of the HS Team Registration
Challenge" - area teams are challenged to recruit participants
and runners are encouraged to support their local team. "Every
entrant can and should affiliate his/her entry with a local
high school," Pugsley pointed out, "it's a great way to support
running at its grass roots." We are pleased to announce as our lead sponsor ING Financial
Partners. ING Financial Partners is part of the ING family,
which is the title sponsor of such prestigious running events
as the ING New York City Marathon, The ING Miami Marathon and
The ING Bay to Breakers. ING Financial Partners has recently
opened its state of the art, full service retail investment
center in Lansdowne, VA. The office is staffed with licensed
