It is a spring tradition on the Pike! The 11th running of the DARCARS Pike's Peek 10K, will take place Sunday, April 23, 2006 in Rockville, MD. The Montgomery County Road Runners Club (MCRRC) is been proud to present spring's premier racing event that consistently attracts more than 3,000 runners from beginner to elite. DARCARS Volvo returns as title sponsor along with White Flint Mall who has hosted all eleven races. The event is for the entire family offering a choice of three distances for all ages and abilities.

The main event, the 10K, will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. at Redland Road and Somerville Drive near the Shady Grove Metro Station. The race proceeds down Rockville Pike (MD Route 355) finishing in front of White Flint Mall. 10K runners will have full use of the north bound-side of Rt. 355 until Gude Drive. After that, runners will use the two median lanes. The USATF certified course is designed for speed and known as the "PR Course." Approximately 20% of the participants run their fastest 10K here.

After the 10K, come cheer for the participants in the White Flint Family Fun Runs on the grounds at White Flint. A 1K "family fun run" for kids and their parents, and a 50- meter "toddler trot" for kids five and younger will begin approximately 9:30 a.m. at the main entrance of the mall. Participants will receive a finishers ribbon upon completion of their event.

All runners will be treated to a sumptuous buffet at the post- race festival. Non-runners may purchase a meal ticket at the festival site. There will also be games and entertainment for the children. Adults are invited to watch the awards ceremony and stay to be eligible for numerous random awards.

Not running? We have a number of volunteer opportunities available. If you sign up before race day, you'll be guaranteed a race T-shirt, post-race meal, training, and become eligible for the volunteer random drawing of $25 gift certificates. Sign up on the web site or call the race hotline.
