top lawyers and runners to settle the "road justice" case at
the
15th Annual Lawyers Have Heart 10K, 8:00 a.m., at the
Washington
Harbour in Georgetown. Witness which law firms will run away
with the top honors. The closing arguments will be in the
shoes.
This year's presenting sponsor is StaffWise Legal, Inc. The
race benefits the American Heart Association (AHA). Since the
inaugural race in1991, over $2.8 million has been raised. The
mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular
disease (CVD) and stroke. By participating, you will not only
strengthen your own heart through exercise, you will also help
to raise funds vital to the educational programs and research
of
the AHA. Come and hang out with your family, friends and co-workers and
feel good about yourself just knowing that you are making a
contribution to the programs of the AHA. Online registration is available at the website www.runlhh.org.
The registration fee through May 31, 2004 is $25.00. June 1
through June 11, 2004 is $35. If you are unable to run/walk, volunteers are certainly
welcomed
and free to sign up online. If you sign up for the 10K and are
then unable to run, you will be able to transfer your number to
another individual beginning on May 1 through June 4 for a $5
transfer fee (mail-in only). The substitute runner MUST sign
the
waiver.

"I wanted a PR today and I did 32:45, my prior was 33:11. The
competition was excellent. I went slow going out and faster on
the way back. I caught three people coming back, it worked out
better and I ran better than I normally do. I had a totally
different mind set, excellent course. I tried a lot of new
things and I was happy," said Michael Wardian, Team
Pacers/Brooks, 5th place in 2002.
"Prior to the race I went to put on my racing flats and realized
I picked up two right footed shoes. My wife let me use her
flats, which were size 8. I wear size 9 - 9.5. I figured what
the heck, this would be something I could talk about and laugh
about later," stated Paul Spangler of Lexington, MD, 4th place
31:48, 2003.
"I was proud to win LHH for the fourth time. During the race I
was more concerned about Erik Kean and Lt. Nathan Flores. After
mile two, I went faster and faster, until I was by myself. The
last two miles were a lot easier, even if I didn't feel great,"
stated Philippe Rolly of Fairfax, VA, 1st place 2004, 31:23.
"I think the race went well for me, I just wanted to go out and
run a 10K, particularly on the roads because I'd never done one.
At the 5K I was about 18 minutes and my first mile was 5:40 and
I felt really relaxed. I didn't know any of the other ladies so
it was pretty easy not to be concerned. I'm new, this was my
first time in this situation so I just went out and competed
with anyone that I could compete with in the race," stated Samia
Akbar, of Herndon, VA, 1st place, 35:59 2004.
"Tatyana Maslova and I were playing cat and mouse through four
miles. Jim Hage came along and she was able to latch on to him,
whereas, I was sort of left behind. I have only been able to
work out for last couple of weeks at my usual level. It was
quite encouraging to have been able to stay with her for that
long," stated Naoko Ishibe of Silver Spring, MD, 2nd place
35:43, 2003.
"I learned that I could stick it out. The fourth to fifth mile
was the hardest. I wanted to finish under an hour. This was my
first 10K. I was a little nervous since I have never run six
miles before. We had our team out here today," stated Caitlin
Coyle of the firm Morris and Forester, finishing in 59:04, 2003.
Full race details are available at Race Home Page or call 703-914-3710.
The American Heart Association was founded in 1924. The AHA is
the largest voluntary health organization and the largest non-
governmental funding source for cardiovascular disease and
stroke, which eventually kill nearly one million Americans.
