Only 14 Days Needed to Close Registration for 32nd Marine Corps Marathon
Charity Partners Hold Remaining Registration Opportunities
By Beth Cline Johnson May 23, 2007 Quantico, VA For the Washington Running Report
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) sold out May 23 at 3:00 p.m.
eastern time with 30,000 participants for the October 28
event. Thousands of runners hit the
MCM web
site, as registration opened May 9 at noon eastern to
ensure a spot on the Arlington, VA start line. A previous MCM
finisher, Michael Goldstein of Washington, DC, was the first
runner to register online. Goldstein was one of 4,614 runners,
or more than 1 runner per second, registered in the first hour
of rolling registration.
"Would-be marathoners are more excited than ever about
participating in the MCM," said Rick Nealis, Race
Director. "Their enthusiasm drove registration to close a week
earlier than in 2006 and reach the second fastest close out the
MCM has ever experienced!"
For those runners who missed online registration, a limited
number of entries remain available through the MCM charity
partner program. Visit the MCM charity
partner page for more information.
The 32nd MCM weekend includes the three-day Health and Fitness
Expo at the DC Armory, the Healthy Kids Fun Run, the MCM10K,
Crystal Run presented by the Crystal City Business Improvement
District, MCM Finish Festival and more exciting events still to
be announced.
Voted "Best Marathon for Families", the Marine Corps Marathon
continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and
patriotism. Runners from all walks of life have participated
in the world's largest marathon to not offer prize money,
deservingly earning the nickname "The People's Marathon." The
32nd Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 28, 2007 in
Arlington, VA is presented by USAA, Brooks Sports, Inc., and
Caremark. Registration for the
MCM10K and Healthy Kids Fun Run is now open.
