Running His Fourth KeyBank Vermont City Marathon
May 25, 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the KeyBank Vermont
City Marathon, and Ted Hobart's fourth consecutive marathon
appearance. Every year since 2005, Ted has returned to
Burlington, VT on Memorial Day weekend to run the marathon in
memory of his Sterling College friend, Lollie Winans, and her
girlfriend Julie Williams. This year is the 12th anniversary of
their brutal slaying near the Appalachian Trail in Virginia's
Shenandoah National Park. In 2007, Hobart created the Winans-Williams Environmental
Action Scholarship to promote environmental stewardship
principles at his alma mater Sterling College. Hobart is
planning to dedicate the rest of his 2008 marathon schedule to
raise donations for the environmental scholarship. "I want my marathon running to bring continued national
attention to this unsolved murder case in hope that those
responsible can be brought to justice. I also want to inspire
Sterling College students to create positive outcomes in their
own communities, and speak out about violence against women,"
explains Ted Hobart. To learn how to support Hobart's 2008 fundraising goal of
$5,000, contact him via e-mail or visit his Marathon
Blog. To donate directly to the scholarship fund, please
phone Barbara Morrow, Director of Development, Sterling
College, 802-586-7711 x159, or e-mail her. Ted Hobart is a 1988 Sterling College graduate whose class is
also celebrating their 20th class reunion this year. He is
currently employed at the Whitman-Walker Clinic as the outreach
coordinator of AIDS Walk Washington. Learn more about Sterling College.
