Thanksgiving Week is Rich with Running Events for Everyone

MCRRC's Turkey Burnoff 5 & 10 Milers And 2K Fun Run
The annual Montgomery County Road Runners Club (MCRRC) Turkey Burnoff 5 & 10 Mile Runs is a post-Thanksgiving tradition. It will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2004, at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The races begin at 10:00 am and the 2 kilometer fun run will begin at 10:05 am.

The course offers runners a scenic view of the Seneca Creek State Park with gently rolling hills and the appearance of deer and other wildlife in the park. Running up the hills will burn off those extra holiday calories!

Registration is available on race-day only. Due to the popularity of the event, runners are advised to arrive 30 minutes early. The races are part of a low-key club race series, free to MCRRC members and $5 for non-members.

Seneca Creek State Park is located at 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, Maryland. From I-270, exit at Clopper Road West (MD 117) and proceed 2 miles to the park entrance on your left. Ashburn Farm 10K, 5K & 2 Mile Fun Run
Crossroads United Methodist Church hosts the Eighth Ashburn Farm 10K, 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2004 at 8:15 am. Crossroads United Methodist Church is located at the corner of Crossroads Drive and Ashburn Farm Parkway in Ashburn, VA.

More than 1200 runners are expected to run the USATF-certified course. Cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 will be awarded to the top three male and female 10K run finishers; the top male and female 5K finishers will receive $150, $100 and $50.

Registration is $25 for the 10K if postmarked by November 21, $30 after 11/21/4. The 5K is $23 before November 21, $25 after 11/21/4. The fun run entry fee is $16 at all times.

All proceeds from this event benefit The Humble Place mission, an orphanage and school founded by Crossroads UMC in Mukono, Uganda. For more information, call Crossroads UMC at 703-729-5100.

Outback Steakhouse 8K & 2 Mile Walk on November 21
Just a reminder: This 8K run and 2-mile noncompetitive walk benefits the Special Olympics. The funds raised by this event will be used to help athletes in their training. The event will start and finish near the Outback Steakhouse parking lot at Prince George's Plaza. The course runs through the beautiful neighborhoods of Hyattsville and University Park.

The Outback Steakhouse 8K on Sunday, November 21 at 9:00 am in Hyattsville, MD, features the finest field of talent at an event in Prince George's County, rewarded with a cash purse of $7,500. Teams are also invited to compete; co-ed groups of five or more can register as a team, at a special rate of $15 per team member. Team captains, call Billy Castle at (301) 985-5027 for information on team registration.

On-line registration is available at SignMeUpSports.com before Friday night, November 19.

Packet Pickup & Race Day Registration will be held on Saturday, November 20, from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Outback Steakhouse, 3500 East-West Highway, Hyattsville, Maryland 20782.
Packets may be picked up on race day, along with late registration, at the Food Court inside Prince George's Plaza from 7:00 am - 8:30 am.

A Prediction Run 5K in Historic Saint Mary's City, MD
The 8th annual Prediction Run 5K and Walk will be held at 9 am on Saturday, November 20 at the Visitor's Center in historic Saint Mary's City, MD. The course is paved and winds through a beautiful setting in southern Maryland. This event benefits the Special Olympics of Saint Mary's County.

The overall male and female 5K winners and the separately scored 5K Prediction Run will win awards. Registration is $15 if postmarked by November 12. Race day registration is $20. All entry fees are tax deductible. Race day registration begins at 8 am. For information or an entry form, log on to the Chesapeake Bay Running Club website at Chesapeake Bay Running Club.
