Marine Corps Marathon Announces Awards

Fairfax County's Lynbrook Elementary Wins Marine Corps Marathon Healthy School Award for 6th Consecutive Time
FAMILY Magazine Presents Physical Education Scholarship to
School with Most Participants in Healthy Kids Fun Run
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and FAMILY Magazine, proud
sponsor of the Healthy Kids Fun Run, will present the MCM
Healthy School Award to Fairfax County's Lynbrook Elementary.
This marks the sixth consecutive year the Springfield, VA
school has received this honor. The Healthy School Award is
presented to the school with the greatest number of students
participating in the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run, a one mile fun
run conducted the day prior to the MCM. FAMILY Magazine will
make a $1,000 donation to the school's physical education
department.
The MCM and FAMILY Magazine will also recognize the school with
the second most student participants. Eagle View Elementary of
Fairfax, VA will receive a $500 donation from FAMILY Magazine
to acknowledge their participation. "Raising healthy, active
kids is a priority for every parent," said Brenda Hyde,
publisher of Washington FAMILY Magazine. "FAMILY Magazine is
thrilled to be involved with the Marine Corps Marathon Healthy
Kids Fun Run and to offer this financial incentive to encourage
students to participate in the event." The Healthy Kids Fun Run
presented by The Washington Post, held October 28 at the DC
Armory in Washington, DC, hosted 1,367 children between the
ages 6 and 13. Kids representing more than 190 schools
throughout the US participated in the event featuring mascots,
educational activities, healthy snacks and fun with the
Marines. Winning school, Lynbrook Elementary boasted 83 student
participants and second place Eagle View was represented by 61
participants.
The MCM Healthy School Awards will be presented during a
special assembly at the schools in February 2007 featuring the
Marines and Miles, the MCM Mascot. Kids Run sponsors include
Washington FAMILY Magazine, Navy Federal Credit Union,
McDonald's, National Children's Museum, Lincoln Military
Housing, and Sodexho.
Pacers Wins Marine Corps Marathon Running Store Competition
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) announced today Pacers as the
2006 MCM Running Store Team Competition. The Northern Virginia
running store team finished the 2006 MCM with the winning
combined time of 9:25:40. Gotta Run of Arlington finished in
second place with a combined time of 10:34:00.

Matt Sciandra 2:44:42
Stephanie Burns 3:52:25
Local running stores formed co-ed teams to compete for the
Running Store Team title. The top two male scores and the one
top female score from
each team combined to determine the winner of the 2006
competition. All scores were based on ChampionChip times.
"This competition brought many fine runners from the great DC
area running stores for friendly competition," said Rick
Nealis, MCM
Race Director. "I am proud to present this award to Pacers for
their accomplishment. Thank you to all those who participated
in the
Running Store Team competition and congratulations on a great
effort." The MCM Running Store Award will be presented in a special
ceremony to be held this winter. Voted "Best Marathon for Families", the Marine Corps Marathon
continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and
patriotism. Since its inception, more than 300,000 civilian and
military runners from all walks of life have participated,
deservingly earning the event its nickname "The People's
Marathon." The 32nd Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October
28, 2007 in Arlington, VA is presented by USAA, Brooks Sports,
Inc., and Cisco Systems. Rolling registration begins May 9th.
