The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health announces the 2nd annual "Boo! Run for Life" 10K run and two-mile walk. The event, organized by friends and family of Dean R. O'Neill, benefits the Foundation for NIH and the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund. The race will start at 8:00 A.M. Sunday, October 14, 2007 in Washington, DC. New this year, a team competition! Form a team of up to ten runners and compete in the Co-Ed category. The first four runners score with a minimum of one man and one woman in the first four.

Proceeds from the race will promote renal cell (kidney) cancer research at the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) by supporting the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fellowship. Kidney cancer is on the rise in the United States. Most common in male adults over the age of 40, the disease is considered by many as one of the more under-researched cancers. More than 30,000 people are diagnosed with kidney cancer each year, half of whom develop metastatic disease that is associated with an extremely poor outlook for recovery.

Through the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund, the Foundation for NIH works in partnership with the NHLBI to provide critical "person-power" by recruiting a top-notch scientist to the National Institutes of Health to pursue novel and promising advanced kidney cancer treatments. This 10K race will help raise funds to help researchers find an effective cure.
