NBC Sports and Universal Sports Hit Stride With
Broadcast and Online Coverage of ING New York City Marathon 2008

NBC Sports and Universal Sports will provide LIVE broadcast and online coverage of the ING New York City Marathon 2008 this Sunday, November 2. All the live marathon action can be accessed at NBCSports.com/Marathon. Additionally, NBC Sports will present a one-hour highlights show of the Marathon, Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET.

The television coverage on Universal Sports and online broadcasts on NBCSports.com begin at 9:00 a.m. ET for everyone in the U.S. Viewers outside the U.S. can watch the online broadcast on UniversalSports.com at 9:00 a.m. ET. The online coverage will include three separate LIVE web streams of the main broadcast, men's leaders, and women's leaders. On Marathon Sunday, the world will watch as top runners compete for more than $600,000 in prize money at the 39th annual ING New York City Marathon.

Coverage on NBC Sports: NBCSports.com will offer a live webcast from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET. The webcast, which will be a stream of WNBC 4 New York's coverage, will be available for free to everyone in the U.S. at NBCSports.com/Marathon.

NBC Sports will broadcast a one-hour highlights show of the ING New York City Marathon 2008 on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET hosted by NBC Sports' Jimmy Roberts. The broadcast will feature the 39th running of the 26.2-mile race seen by 2 million spectators as runners pace through New York City's five boroughs, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan, and finish at Tavern on the Green in world-famous Central Park.

Coverage on Universal Sports: Universal Sports, available in 30 million homes, will present a live broadcast on its 24-hour television network from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET and a same day encore presentation from 9:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. ET.

In addition, UniversalSports.com will offer a free, global live webcast from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. ET for users outside the U.S. The men's leaders and women's leaders live webcast streams will be available from 9:00 a.m. - Noon ET and, along with the main broadcast stream, will be posted for same day on-demand viewing.

World Marathon Majors: Three-time Olympian and reigning WMM champion Gete Wami of Ethopia, and double Olympic marathon silver medalist Catherine Ndereba of Kenya will battle for the WMM women's title and $500,000 champions purse. World record holder and ING New York City Marathon defending champion Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain is also slated to compete. ING New York City Marathon defending champion Martin Lel, who clinched the WMM men's crown, will not race due to injury, but a trio of former men's champions - Paul Tergat of Kenya, Hendrick Ramaala of South Africa, and Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil - will vie for the top of the podium.

Al Trautwig, Toni Reavis, and Tim Hutchings will announce the live race coverage, and Ed Eyestone and Juli Henner will provide on- course reports from motorcycle vantage points. WNBC's Bruce Beck and Otis Livingston will cover the race from the sidelines, with Runner's World's David Willey interviewing runners on foot.
