Philadelphia, PA
For the Washington Running Report

The Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) will hold its Guts & Glory 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 7 in Philadelphia. The race will occur on Martin Luther King Boulevard (near the Philadelphia Museum of Art) at 10:00 a.m. Betsy Marple of Lansdale, PA will chair this year's event and Lu Ann Cahn, NBC 10 investigative reporter, will serve as honorary chairperson. 94WYSP-FM will be the exclusive radio sponsor. Formerly the "You've Gotta Have Guts" 5K Run/Walk, the Guts & Glory 5K Walk/Run is in its 15th year. The overall male and female winners each will receive an overnight stay at the Hyatt Regency at Penn's Landing, in addition to other prizes. Additional awards will be presented to runners in various age categories. Last year's event raised more than $108,000 for CCFA.

Registration takes place at the entrance to MLK Blvd. from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 10:00 a.m. The entry fee is $15 by September 29 and includes a T-shirt. After September 29 and on race day, the fee is $20 and T-shirts are included while supplies last. Participants are encouraged to gather sponsors to pledge additional donations. Proceeds from the Guts & Glory 5K Run/Walk benefit research, education, and support programs for people suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis - chronic digestive disorders of the small and large intestines collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is estimated that IBD affects an estimated 1.4 million Americans. CCFA, a voluntary, non-profit national organization, seeks to cure and prevent Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis through research, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these digestive diseases through education and support.

For more information or to register for the event, please contact CCFA at 215-396-9100 or 888-340-4744, or register online at www.gutsandglory.org.
