The 10th Annual 5K Run For Kathy
By Ken Long September 5, 2008 Bowie, MD For the Washington Running Report
This year's race will be our 10th annual event...and our last!
The
Run for
Kathy is a charity event in memory of Kathryn Popp-Long,
and features a 5K Race, 1-mile kids run, and a 1-mile family
walk; it will be held on Saturday, October 11 in Bowie, MD. Since Kathy's death from cervical cancer in 1999, her
family and friends have been working to host events that bring
together the community, increase the awareness of cancer, and
raise funds for cancer research. To date, we have raised more than $90,000. Our goal this year
is to surpass the $100,000 mark. All the money we have raised
and will continue to raise goes to the Kimmel Comprehensive
Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Come and enjoy
a great race and bring the kids. We have plenty of kids'
activities to keep them entertained. There are also plenty of
refreshments from Popeyes, Panera Bread, Giant Food, and Pizza
Hut. And, the crowd favorite is the door prizes, many of which
are Under Armour apparel. If you cannot make the race, consider
making a donation, and know that 100% will go directly to
cancer research.
For more information, including details about the race and to
register online, go
to Run for
Kathy or call 301-428-3008. Note that all cancer survivors
get to participate for free!
