PACE Race 5K Run/Walk

PACE Race 5K Run/Walk

sanofi aventis is the Presenting Sponsor for the National Series

Date and Time:
Saturday, October 21
, 2006
8:00 AM
Location:
West Potomac Park, 1100 Ohio Dr SW, Washington, DC, near the
Tidal Basin and FDR Memorial

About the Event:
Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer found in American men, after skin cancer. The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimates that there will be about 234,460 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2006. About 27,350 men will die of the disease in one year. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, second only to lung cancer. While 1 in 6 men will get prostate cancer during his lifetime, only 1 in 34 men will die of this disease. The death rate for prostate cancer is going down. And the disease is being detected earlier, according to ACS.

Early prostate cancer usually does not have any symptoms, so testing is very important to detect the disease. Come out and help support prostate cancer education and research by running or walking in this race.

ChampionChip Timing
The ChampionChip Timing System will be used to score the 5K race. The system uses a computer "Chip" which must be tied to runners' shoelaces, and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line as well as the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. Overall awards will be based on "clock time," and age group and team awards will be based on net time. You must wear your ChampionChip on your shoe and cross the mats at the start and finish to be scored. If you are unfamilar with running in a ChampionChip timed race, please read the article Running in a ChampionChip Race
