For those who are eager to see who was ranked number one in the Washington Running Report Runner Rankings for the year 2006, here is a preview of the top contenders.

To see who is ranked number one in the Washington, DC area, be sure to pick up a copy of the March-April issue of the Washington Running Report. For now, we have a preview of the top candidates in alphabetical order.

To qualify for the Runner rankings, a runner must meet the qualifying time twice during any of the four seasonal ranking periods. To qualify for the year-end rankings, a runner must be ranked in two of those four periods. Visit our Runner Rankings page for more information on what is needed to be ranked as well as time qualifications.

In the alphabetical listing below, there is an asterisk beside the names of some of the runners. For the Open division, each asterisk represents an overall win. For the age groups, each asterisk represents an age group win. Many top flight runners do not race all year; they may get top billing in a ranking period but may not qualify for the year-end rankings.
