18th Annual Van Metre 5 Mile Run For Children's Hospital

3-06-10 Van Metre 5-Mile Run for Children's Hospital (Broadlands, VA) The Van Metre 5-Mile Run is an event for the entire family. Serious runners, weekend and occasional joggers, walkers, and even strollers (for the One Mile Fun Run/Walk only) of all skill levels are invited to participate. The 5- Mile Run features ChronoTrack timing and team competition. This event has more prizes for children than any other race. The 5 mile course stretches throughout the beautiful Broadlands community. There is also an easy 1 mile course for children and walkers. A new course has been developed since the staging area has moved from the Nature Center to the Broadlands Market Place on Wyndridge Drive. This new shopping center will have plenty of room for parking. About half of the previous course is being used for the new 5 mile route.

5th Annual SunTrust National Marathon and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield National Half Marathon

On March 20, 2010, you will have your chance to make history. The 5th Annual SunTrust National Marathon and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield National Half Marathon is the only marathon held entirely within the District of Columbia. That means that this competitive, chip-timed event will take you past all of the historic monuments and memorials, as well as through all of the corridors of DC. A qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, the SunTrust National Marathon is the fastest flat-looped marathon in the country according to RunningUSA. In addition to the marathon and half marathon, this year you may also enter the half marathon as a three-person relay team. All events will begin and end at RFK Stadium on Saturday, March 20, 2010. With an expected sell-out field of 12,000 athletes, be sure to register early to secure your spot in this year’s event.

Run to Register 10K

03-27-10 Run to Register 10K (Quantico, VA)Secure a slot in the 35th Marine Corps Marathon by finishing the MCM Run to Register 10K on March 27, 2010. All finishers ages 14 and older will receive a guaranteed, non-complimentary entry into the MCM days before online registration is available to the general public. The MCM R2R begins at 8:00 a.m. aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico and is open to participants ages 10 and up. A 16 minute per mile time limit will be enforced.
Irish Sprint One-Miler
03-27-10 Irish Sprint One-Miler (Quantico, VA)
The Irish Sprint began as an intense San Francisco-based competition between the Coast Guard and the Marine Corps in 1981. In 2010, the event moves to Marine Corps Base Quantico and will be open to public participation. Held immediately after the MCM R2R 10K beginning at 10 a.m., the Irish Sprint welcomes all runners ages 14 and older to test their maximum speed on a one-mile course utilizing the historic Butler Stadium track as well as surrounding roadways.
St Charles Half Marathon & 5K

Charles County Maryland is one of the fastest growing counties in the country so it is only fitting that one of the fastest growing race series comes here in the form of the St Charles Half Marathon on April 18, 2010. While the Half Marathon and 5K will traverse through St Charles, the accompanying “Fun Run” will be held on Saturday, April 17 at the newly opened Charles County “Rail Trail.” The federally funded, 13.2 “Rail Trail” was a 17-year project that showcases wildlife areas and provides a scenic running and biking trail through one of the state’s most picturesque counties. In addition to the Fun Run, Saturday will also include a runners’ expo and packet pickup.

The Manassas City Police Association is hosting the ninth annual 5K race in honor of Sgt John D. Conner III who was killed in the line of duty on July 24, 1988. The event features a certified course, ChronoTrack timing, good competition, and fun for the entire community.

Marine Corps Historic Half marathon

The Marine Corps Historic Half marathon will be held on May 16, 2010 in timeless Fredericksburg, Virginia. Participants run in the footsteps of presidents and generals on a course conveniently located on I-95 between Washington, DC and Richmond. The Historic Half marathon boasts scenic riverside views, a charming Old Town and colonial and revolutionary landmarks. The 13.1 mile course begins and ends at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference center.
Semper Fred 5K

Join Miles and Molly, the MCM Mascots, as well as Marines and the Fredericksburg community for the Semper Fred 5K, presented by The Free Lance Star. The 3.1 mile run/walk is open to families and fitness enthusiasts of all ages, however, strollers are prohibited.

Honor the men and women of the United States Marine Corps on June 12 beginning at 7:00 a.m. by participating in Crossroads 17.75. The 11-mile (17.75K) distance is unique to the MCM Event Series and commemorates the year in which the USMC was founded. Crossroads 17.75K is open to runners ages 10 and older.

During the heat of the summer, test your limits (and that of your washing machine) at Run Amuck. On August 14, the four-mile race engages runners in obstacles, mud pits, a water challenge and more beginning at 8:05 a.m. Kids Run Amuck offers younger participants their own messy, muddy race. Run Amuck is open to participants ages 10 and older. Kids Run Amuck is open to participants ages 6-9.
Ragnar Relay Washington DC

This 193 mile adventure-fest will push you and 11 pals through the stunning scenery of the Potomac River Valley. Starting near the town of Cumberland, MD, your team will head east through the thick forests of the Appalachian mountains. Around night fall you will run through the quiet streets of many charming historic Civil War-era towns, ultimately passing within the shadows of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The race (and your stamina) wraps on the shores of the Potomac River and ends at National Harbor.

The annual Marine Corps Marathon Healthy Kids Fun Run will be held on October 30, 2010 in the Pentagon North Parking Lot. Children ages 6-13 are invited to participate in the one-mile just-for-fun event. Registration will open online May 12. All participants receive a t-shirt, medal and snacks at the finish line.

The MCM10K presented by Aetna is on the National Mall, just outside the Smithsonian Metro Station on Jefferson Drive. Participants and spectators should proceed directly to the start location, just a block away from the Smithsonian Castle. Opening festivities begin at 7:50 a.m. with the start at 8:05 a.m. Wheelchair and hand cycle participants will be stationed at the front of the corrals for the start.
35th Marine Corps Marathon

Marine Corps Marathon rolling registration opens online beginning April 7, 2010. The 35th MCM will be held on October 31. The 2010 course tours Arlington, VA and Washington, DC, showcasing the country's most powerful landmarks and inspiring memorials. The race field is limited to 30,000 participants and traditionally fills quickly. Recognized as a terrific beginner marathon and 'best for families,' the MCM is organized by the men and women of the US Marine Corps.

The popular Capital Running Company Veterans Day 10K continues for the 11th year in Washington, DC. A 2.25 mile fun walk makes the event a real family affair. Held in West Potomac Park, it is the same great race, ChronoTrack timed, with a fast cruise around Hains Point and awards to the top three male and female finishers in five-year age groups to 80 & above.
Turkey Trot 10K/One-Miler

Unleash a preemptive strike on those Thanksgiving calories and run the Turkey Trot 10K on November 20, 2010 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Even kids can burn off some pumpkin pie by racing in the Turkey Trot One-Miler. The Turkey Trot 10K is open to runners ages 10 and older. The Turkey Trot One-Miler is available to participants ages 9 and under.
