Welcome to the Washington Running Report

2010 Season Opens with
St. Patrick’s Day 8K

Even with the threat of rain, the St. Patrick’s Day 8K nearly matched a record 4319 from last year with 4237 finishers. The rain held off until the last few minutes of the awards ceremony. Fast times included overall winner Abiyot Endale's 20-24 age group record (24:18) as well as runner-up Mohammed Awol 30-34 (24:35). Fifth place Gurmessa Megressa, now 30, set the event record in 2006 with 23:36. Maggie Infeld shellacked the women’s division in 27:42 with the second fastest time ever. Last year Hirut Mandefro set the standard in 27:06. Muluye Gurma was second again this year. As with last year, masters were third and fourth. Newcomer Peggy Yetman was third, moving last year’s third, Danielle Russell, back to fourth.
