Come out and run in the last big 8K race of the year!
The 8K is the fourth race in the Capital Running Race Series.Awards & Age Divisions

Five-year age groups to 80 and older! Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the
following age groups: 19 & younger, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80 & older.
The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 10:30 AM on the stage on the Plaza. Overall winners will be scored on clock time; age group winners on net time. Random prizes will be awarded during the post-race ceremony. Participants must be present to win random prizes.
ChronoTrack Timing
The race will be timed with the innovative ChronoTrack D-tag timing system. Runners will be given a ChronoTrack D-tag, affixed to their bib. The tag must be removed from the bib and tied into runners' shoelaces. The transponder in the tag will record when each runner crosses the start line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner in addition to the clock time. More ChronoTrack information: FAQs, instruction sheet (pdf), and instructional video.
8K CourseThe certified 8K course is flat and fast, good for a new PR. A USATF-certified fast 8K course (USATF No. 06001RT) will take runners through the streets of downtown Washington, DC, to the U.S. Capitol, past museums, and across the National Mall. The start and finish lines are located on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 12th and 13th Streets, near Freedom Plaza.
Water stations will be located at approximately two and the 5K point.
Start Time
The race will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. Note: Even though this is a ChronoTrack (chip) timed event, we cannot accommodate very late starters. At a point in the event, after the start, we have to reset the system to collect finish data. Runners crossing the start line after this has been done will be recorded as the first finishers, greatly complicating the results! Please be prompt.T-Shirts & Jingle Bells
Put jingle bells on your shoes and jingle all the way! Get your bells at packet pickup along with your bib and t-shirt. Long-sleeved, 100% cotton T-shirts with a colorful, seasonal design will be given to all registrants.
Costume Contest
Dress up in your favorite holiday-themed costume and compete for prizes! We have expanded the costume contest in 2012 to include individuals, small groups (2 to 4 participants), and large groups (5 or more). Register for the contest at the Freedom Plaza stage between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Your group does not have to be registered as a team to compete in the costume contest.
Refreshments
Food and hot beverages will be provided for participants and volunteers. Water will be provided on course near the two and four-mile marks, and at the start/finish lines.
The Sergeant's Program
The Sergeant's Program will be there to warm up participants before the race, approximately 8:30 a.m.
Bag Check
There will be a bag check area at the race site where participants may leave warm-up clothing. No valuables, please. It will be located on the west side of the Plaza.
Volunteers
We need volunteers to help conduct a successful event. If you are available to help at packet pickup on Friday or Saturday (11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), or at the race on Sunday, please contact us via e-mail (office@runwashington.com) and specify when you can work. We will contact you in the week preceding the race with your assignment. Individuals and groups are welcome.
Commemorative Photographs
Photographers representing www.brightroom.com will be on course and at the finish line. Runners may purchase copies of the photos beginning the week after the race. Click here to sign up to be notified when the photos are available.
