The Germantown 5-Miler returns to upper Montgomery County This family-friendly event, presented by Seneca Creek Community Church and benefiting the Germantown Boys and Girls Club and Girls on the Run of Montgomery County will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Seneca Meadows Corporate Center in Germantown, MD. But be forewarned-this is not just your average 5 mile race. A 1K kids run will kick off the event at 8:10 a.m. followed by the 5 mile, champion-chip timed race at 8:30 am. And last but not least the Girls on the Run of Montgomery County 5K will start at 8:50 am. This untimed event will be open to all runners with these outstanding girls starting up front.

Sponsors like Nighttime Care Centers and Fleet Feet Gaithersburg plus local restaurants and businesses have given prizes for the 5-year age group awards. The race will split $1,200 between the top three male and female runners. Steven Crane (in photo below with Abiyot Abebe) will be back to defend his title and Elena Orlova a previous female winner will back as well. Look for some fast times between the top runners.

This year the race proceeds will go to support two well-deserving local charities, namely the Germantown Boys & Girls Club and Girls on the Run of Montgomery County.

Participants in the race will have access to the festive post race area, which will include a moon bounce for children, bagels and more, to be enjoyed by all runners. There will be corporate/friends and running club teams competing in the 5-Miler. For more information and registration, we invite you to visit the race web site.
